New Permanent Representative of Colombia Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Colombia to the United Nations, Mauricio Gaona, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres today.

Dr. Mauricio Gaona is an international relations expert, constitutional law expert, author, research professor, and international analyst with an exceptional career. He holds a Doctor of Law (PhD) from McGill University, with a two-year residence at Harvard Law School (IGLP); a Master of Laws (LLM) in international and comparative law from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA); a master's degree in European Union Law (M2) from the University of Paris II Panthéon-Assas; and a Bachelor of Laws (JD/LLB) from the Externado University of Colombia.

Ambassador Gaona was being named a Vanier Scholar by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), an O'Brien Fellow at McGill, a Dean's Fellow and Visiting Scholar at UCLA, a Visiting Research Fellow at Harvard, and a Finnish Government Scholar in Italy (UNIDROIT). His work has been published and referred by Columbia University, NYU, Oxford University, American University, McGill University, Los Andes University and Externado University. He has been a guest lecturer at Yale, Oxford, Cambridge, MIT and the National University of Singapore, as well as a visiting professor in the doctoral program at the School of Government and International Relations at Externado University.

Ambassador Mauricio Gaona has served as Assistant to the Attorney General of Colombia, Deputy National Comptroller, and Law Clerk to Chief Justice of the President of the Council of State. He has been a guest columnist and contributor to The Hill, The Washington Examiner, the New York Daily News, the Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, El País de América and El Espectador, as well as an international analyst for CBC, CTV News Canada, France 24, Diario Las Américas, El Tiempo, Semana, El Colombiano, Caracol, RCN, Blu Radio, W Radio and Radio Canada International.
