WASHINGTON, D.C. - Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03) today voted to pass legislation to reopen the federal government following 43 days of a shutdown. The Senate Amendment to H.R. 5371 , the Continuing Appropriations, Agriculture, Legislative Branch, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Extensions Act, 2026 , will provide continuing funding for most agencies through January 30, 2026, and full-year funding for the Department of Agriculture, the Legislative Branch, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
"This was never a red or blue issue, this was about working together to open the government for the American people," said Rep. Nunn . "While I'm glad we finally ended the gridlock, my Democratic colleagues need to understand what their political gamesmanship cost Iowa. I spent this completely avoidable shutdown hearing directly from Iowans who were missing paychecks, losing access to services, and worrying about how to feed their families. The deal we passed today was on the table more than a month ago, and we should have reached it before this shutdown ever began."
As part of the funding package, Rep. Nunn also secured $3.5 million in federal investments for Iowa's Third Congressional District through the Community Project Funding (CPF) process. This process allows Members of Congress to advocate for targeted investments in high-impact, locally-driven projects that meet the unique needs of their communities.
"I'm proud to see the investments we fought for make it across the finish line," continued Rep. Nunn . "These projects will deliver real results for families, farmers, and communities across the Third District, and I look forward to highlighting each of these local wins in the days ahead."
Details on the specific projects awarded funding will be announced by Rep. Nunn at a later date.
