Vladimir Putin Holds Meeting with Valentina Matviyenko

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin held a meeting with Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko.

The head of the upper chamber of the Russian Parliament briefed the President on the results of the Federation Council's work during the first half of the year.

She emphasized that more than one third of over 300 laws adopted during this period were aimed at providing social support for citizens.

Among the key issues, Valentina Matvienko highlighted demographic development. According to her, the measures introduced following the President's instructions are already producing positive results. She noted that efforts to address demographic challenges involve the regions, authorities at all levels, as well as the business community and civil society institutions.

The Chair also reported on the implementation of comprehensive measures to support and preserve Russia's traditional folk arts and crafts. On the joint initiative of the Federation Council and the Government of the Russian Federation, a national award for master artisans and enterprises engaged in traditional folk arts and crafts has been established. She further noted that the parties had agreed to implement a human resources programme in this field aimed at attracting young people, ensuring the transfer of skills from experienced mentors, and promoting the further development of traditional crafts.

The Speaker also spoke about the active development of international cooperation. Over the past year, 77 meetings with foreign parliamentary colleagues were held in various formats. It was emphasized that cooperation extends not only to the Commonwealth, where the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS plays an active role, but also to other countries.

The participants in the meeting also discussed the upcoming rotation of senators in connection with the Single Voting Day.

Vladimir Putin thanked Valentina Matvienko and all members of the Federation Council for their active work.
