ATLANTA - State Representative Matt Reeves (R-Duluth) applauds the Georgia House's passage of House Bill 1074, local legislation approving a November 2026 referendum on a homeowner property tax relief measure for homeowners in the City of Suwanee, Georgia. The homestead relief amount would be $15,000 per year, which would be higher than the Gwinnett County homestead amount. The Suwanee mayor and city council unanimously requested the local legislation.
"Homeownership is one of the most important investments a family can make, and this legislation is about helping Suwanee residents keep more of their hard-earned money in their own homes," said Rep. Reeves. "I was proud to sponsor this measure at the request of the mayor and city council, and I'm grateful for the House's support. This referendum will give voters the opportunity to provide meaningful property tax relief that exceeds the current county homestead amount and delivers real savings for local homeowners."
This is Rep. Reeves' sixth homeowner property tax relief measure that he has advocated for since taking office: a Sugar Hill homestead relief measure in 2024, Gwinnett homestead relief measures in 2024 and 2026, a proposal to increase the state minimum homestead in 2024 and House Speaker Jon Burns'(R-Newington) homeowner property relief legislation that is pending in the House.
Rep. Reeves is the chairman of the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Insurance Rates, vice chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and represents the Gwinnett County cities of Sugar Hill, Suwanee and Duluth in the Georgia House of Representatives.
