The minister confirmed this date during a meeting attended by the foreign ministers of the Ibero-American countries, marking the start of the Ibero-American Conference, which will include more than 25 ministerial meetings, forums and gatherings in different cities in Spain.
Albares announced that Spain will propose the creation of an Ibero-American Disaster Response Fund, move forward with the standardisation of university degrees and strengthen relations with other countries and regions such as India or the English-speaking Caribbean, giving observer countries at the Ibero-American Conference a new role.
Spain will work with its Ibero-American partners to approve the Four-Year Plan for Ibero-American Cooperation (PACCI 2026-2030) with a more strategic and inclusive approach.
A Declaration on Haiti was adopted at this meeting, expressing support for Secretary-General Guterres' proposals on the UN Mission in the Caribbean country. Albares undertook to formally covey this, on behalf of the Ibero-American Community, to the UN Secretary General and the President of the Security Council. The mandate of the Ibero-American Secretary General, the Chilean Andrés Allamand, was also renewed.
