WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Bureau of Land Management generated $592.7 million in total receipts from oil and gas sales held in the first quarter of 2026 - in line with the Trump administration's Energy Dominance initiative. These revenues reflect an ongoing focus on unleashing domestic energy, supporting job growth, and promoting efficient, streamlined permitting and leasing processes.
"This quarter's totals are the most revenue generated at this point of the calendar year ever in BLM history," said Acting BLM Director Bill Groffy. "Our world-class oil and gas program continues to demonstrate the BLM's unwavering commitment to fostering American Energy Dominance while ensuring public lands are supporting national security, economic strength and the livelihood of the American people."
From January through March, the BLM sold 246 parcels for lease on 225,277 acres in Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming, generating just over $415 million in receipts.
In addition, last month the BLM held a landmark oil and gas lease sale for the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska, resulting in 187 tracts sold and an additional $177.6 million in total receipts.
The combined bonus bids and rentals from the leases will be distributed between the federal government and the states where the parcels are located. In Alaska's sale, a portion of the state's proceeds benefit North Slope communities through the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska Impact Mitigation Grant Program.
The Alaska sale was the first for the reserve since 2019 and the first under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and consistent with Executive Order 14153, "Unleashing Alaska's Extraordinary Resource Potential". Under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the BLM must hold at least five lease sales in the reserve by 2035, each offering at least four million acres.
Oil and gas lease sales support domestic energy production and American energy independence while contributing to the nation's economic and military security. Consistent with Executive Order 14154, "Unleashing American Energy," BLM's lease sales help meet the energy needs of U.S. citizens and solidify the nation as a global energy leader long into the future.
The BLM manages about 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. Our mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America's public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
