Hunter, ND - Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak (R-ND) today hosted Google for an Online Safety Roadshow at Northern Cass School, speaking with 250 students during an interactive assembly about responsible technology use.
The roadshow is based on the Be Internet Awesome curriculum, which focuses on five tips for staying safe and being smart online:
Share content with care
Don't fall for fake online scams
Secure your information with strong passwords
Be kind to others online
When in doubt, talk it out with a trusted adult.
"Today's students are growing up in an increasingly digital world, and they need the tools to navigate it safely," Fedorchak said. "I appreciate Google bringing the Online Safety Roadshow to North Dakota and helping equip students with practical skills to protect themselves online. We can't emphasize the importance of treating others with respect and kindness enough, and I'm glad that is a core part of this program."
During the 45-minute interactive assembly, students learned important skills, including how to create a safe and memorable password, why it's important to take breaks from screens, the value of being kind online, and how to increase AI literacy through understanding and critical thinking about AI. Fedorchak also spoke with students about the long-term impact of their digital footprint and the importance of making smart decisions online.
"At Google, we believe every child should be able to learn, explore, and grow safely online, and we are committed to leading the way," said Dan Harbeke, North Dakota native and Google's Regional Head of External Affairs and Public Policy. "Through high-quality, educational, and fun experiences, like our Online Safety Roadshows, we are equipping future leaders with the skills to be smart, kind, and brave digital citizens, ensuring they can safely seize the incredible opportunities that technology and innovation present."
