The G7 Cyber Expert Group (CEG) successfully concluded its Cross-Border Coordination Exercise (CBCE) on 18 May 2026, reaffirming the commitment of G7 financial authorities to strengthening the digital operational resilience of the international financial sector.
The exercise brought together ministries of finance, central banks, banking supervisors and financial market authorities from G7 countries to simulate a large-scale cyber incident with cross-border implications affecting multiple jurisdictions.
The initiative provided an opportunity to test the governance arrangements, procedures and coordination tools developed through the Group's activities, with a particular focus on cyber incident response, the timely exchange of information among competent authorities, operational recovery and crisis communication management.
The exercise aimed at enhancing the collective capacity of authorities to respond to cyber events that could potentially disrupt the provision of critical financial services, considering the increasing interconnectedness of financial systems and technology infrastructures at the global level.
The CEG also adopted a long-term strategy to increase the frequency of these exercises, with a view to strengthening the preparedness of authorities and financial institutions and supporting the continuous improvement of their capabilities to respond to large-scale cyber incidents.
As cyber threats continue to evolve and financial systems become increasingly interconnected, international coordination, timely information sharing and incident response preparedness remain fundamental to safeguarding the stability, resilience and integrity of the global financial system.
