Backgrounder

On June 22, the Honourable Rebecca Chartrand, Minister of Northern and Arctic Affairs and Minister responsible for the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, on behalf of the Honourable Buckley Belanger, Secretary of State for Rural Development, announced over $96.8 million in funding to bring high-speed Internet access to up to 7,875 households in Manitoba through a Valler Fiber Ltd. project.

On June 22, the Honourable Rebecca Chartrand, Minister of Northern and Arctic Affairs and Minister responsible for the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, on behalf of the Honourable Buckley Belanger, Secretary of State for Rural Development, announced over $96.8 million in funding to bring high-speed Internet access to up to 7,875 households in Manitoba through a Valler Fiber Ltd. project.

Here is an overview of Manitoba's connectivity status:

  • Currently, 94.1% of Manitoba households have access to high-speed Internet of at least 50 megabits per second download and 10 megabits per second upload (50/10 Mbps+).
  • In 2017, 69.8% of Manitoba households had access to high-speed Internet (50/10 Mbps+).
  • By the end of 2026, 97.1% of Manitoba households are projected to have access to high-speed Internet (50/10 Mbps+).

The following communities will benefit from improved Internet speeds thanks to a Valley Fiber project funded by the Government of Canada:
