Parliament, Sunday, 13 April 2025 - The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police, Mr Ian Cameron, has learnt with deep shock and sadness of the untimely death of Jenni Irish-Qhobosheane in a car accident on Saturday morning.
"While the reality of death is part of the human experience, Jenni's passing robs the country of a dedicated policing expert when we need her knowledge, experience and expertise the most as efforts to combat crime intensify," Mr Cameron said.
Ms Irish-Qhobosheane was dedicated to a safer South Africa that can grow economically, protect women and children, and provide an environment for growth and prosperity. Her over 30 years of dedicated work with the public and civil society represent planting seeds we must all nurture to see to fruition," said Mr Cameron.
"What is even more saddening is that Jenni passed away during a time she was advising the government on a comprehensive strategy to combat organised crime. The worrying increase of zama-zamas, or the crippling increase of extortion in the country, required expertise, experience and dedication that Jenni has embodied.
" I want to extend our condolences to Jenni's family and friends. May they be consoled by the fact that Jenni lived her life purposefully and to the fullest, and her contribution will live on. May her soul rest in peace. "
