Palmdale Receives 34th Consecutive Certificate of Achievement for

Excellence in Financial Reporting by GFOA

PALMDALE, CA - The City of Palmdale is proud to announce that it has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its FY 2024-25 budget. This recognition reflects the commitment of Palmdale's governing body and staff to meeting the highest standards in governmental budgeting. Selected by a panel of independent reviewers, this award represents a significant achievement and underscores the City of Palmdale's dedication to excellence. It is the 34th consecutive year the City has achieved this certification.

"There are over 1,700 participants in the Budget Awards Program," said Mayor Austin Bishop. "Palmdale has set a benchmark for creating transparent and fiscally responsible budgets, serving as an excellent example for other governments throughout North America. We are honored to be recognized with this prestigious accolade."

To receive this award, the City had to satisfy national guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well the City's budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device. Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories and in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories to receive the award.

"This award highlights our dedication to transparency, accountability and excellence in financial management," said Mayor Pro Tem Richard J. Loa. "It demonstrates our devotion to providing residents with a clear and comprehensive understanding of how public funds are managed and allocated to enhance quality of life."

The City of Palmdale's Finance division is responsible for overall financial planning for the City, revenue administration and budget control. The department also provides payroll services, purchasing, administration of the City's outstanding debt obligations and acts in a fiduciary capacity for the Successor Agency to the Community Redevelopment Agency of the City of Palmdale, five assessment districts and seven community facilities districts. The department also assists the City Manager in the preparation of the annual budget, invests City funds for both short and long-term purposes and provides cash management for the City.
