Kaine Statement on Eli Lilly’s $5 Billion Investment to Build Manufacturing Plant in Goochland County

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA), a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement after Eli Lilly announced it will build a $5 billion manufacturing facility in Goochland County:

"I'm thrilled Eli Lilly is building a $5 billion manufacturing plant in Goochland County, which will create good-paying jobs. This announcement is a testament to Virginia's strong workforce and education system. It also builds on the progress we've made to turn central Virginia into a pharmaceutical manufacturing hub. I will continue working to boost domestic manufacturing of lifesaving medicines, strengthen our supply chains, and grow our economy."

Kaine has supported policies to strengthen domestic manufacturing of critical medicines. Kaine has championed policies to support and fund the Advanced Pharmaceutical Manufacturing cluster in Petersburg. Kaine helped form and grow the Virginia Biotechnology Research Partnership Authority while he was on Richmond City Council, served on the Authority's board as Mayor of Richmond, and appointed its board members as Governor of Virginia.
