Bridge Inspection Prompts Rolling Roadblocks on I-40, I-640 in East Knoxville

Motorists traveling on I-40 and I-640 in Knox County should be aware of upcoming road construction activities that will have an impact on traffic.

Beginning at approximately 7 a.m. on Sunday, October 4, crews will begin bridge inspection of the ramp from I-40 East to I-640 West, just east of downtown Knoxville. To allow crews to perform this work safely, there will be intermittent rolling roadblocks along I-40 East, I-40 West, I-640 East to I-40 East and West, and I-40 West to I-640 West. The right lane of the ramp from I-40 East to I-640 West will also be closed.

These rolling roadblocks will be in place for approximately 15 minutes each and will be completed by 7 p.m. that same day.

In addition, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday, October 5, the left lane will be closed on I-40 East and West at the I-640 interchange. At the same time, the right lane of the ramp from I-40 East to I-640 West will be closed.

Also, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, the right lane of the ramp from I-40 East to I-640 West will be closed.

As always, drivers are reminded to use all motorist information tools wisely and "Know Before You Go!" by checking travel conditions before leaving for their destination. Drivers should never tweet, text, or talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel.
