VIDEO: Senator Moody Joins NASA Administrator Isaacman to Announce the Launch of Max Power Expo and Massive Airshow Scheduled to be Held on Florida’s Space Coast

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla.-Senator Ashley Moody is spotlighting Florida's central role in American space exploration and fighting to secure additional resources and infrastructure to keep the Space Coast first in space. Today, with NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, Senator Moody and other officials announced that Kennedy Space Center will host Max Power, a high-profile tech expo and air show-putting Florida's space industry center stage.

"Florida truly is the launchpad of American space innovation-and hosting the upcoming Max Power Expo is a great opportunity to show off the hard work of our engineers and scientists who are developing systems to get American boots back on the Moon and beyond. When America shoots for the stars, it launches from Florida-I'll continue fighting to ensure our Space Coast has the resources and infrastructure needed to keep us leading in Space," said Senator Ashley Moody.

BACKGROUND:

• Max Power is coming to Kennedy Space Center in November. The event will feature a tech expo, air show and high-impact speakers, and will be held on the Shuttle runway.
  • The event is expected to be one of the largest air shows ever according to the Space Coast Office of Tourism. The Tourism Development Council (TDC) anticipates the NASA-partnered show will easily surpass 50,000 out-of-county attendees.
  • The event is headlined by the U.S.A.F Thunderbirds.
  • The event is part of a national series of events recognizing the United States' 250th anniversary.
• Senator Moody has a staunch record supporting Florida's Space Coast, where launches have increased by over 500% since 2016.
• Senator Moody passed the Secure U.S. Leadership in Space Act, to ensure the U.S. remains competitive and at the forefront of space innovation and exploration.
  • The legislation bolsters public-private partnerships by making spaceport facility bonds tax-exempt, treating spaceports the same as airports and seaports.
• Senator Moody recently introduced the Space Ready 2.0 Act, which would establish a NASA-wide pilot program allowing the agency to accept voluntary private contributions for infrastructure improvement projects at NASA centers.
  • The proposal does not create a new spending program, establish a new Treasury fund, or authorize new federal spending. Rather, it builds upon NASA's existing authority and allows private-sector partners to voluntarily invest in infrastructure improvements that directly support the missions they rely upon.
• Earlier in July, Senator Moody met with the crew of Artemis II at Kennedy Space Center as they thanked the hundreds of NASA engineers, mathematicians and scientists who built the rocket that launched them farther into space than any human has ever traveled.
• Senator Moody also introduced the CAPE Canaveral Act to relocate NASA headquarters to Florida's Space Coast-where it belongs.
