A.I.S.E. is recruiting a Sustainability Policy Manager

A.I.S.E., the European detergents and maintenance products industry association, is recruiting a Sustainability Policy Manager to join our dynamic and multicultural team in Brussels. You will be part of our Sustainability team to support the association in developing and managing its work programme on sustainability policies and legislations. You will also collaborate closely with colleagues from other departments from Regulatory Affairs, Public Affairs and Communications.

Your responsibilities

You will have the opportunity to represent the views of a leading European industry subject to sustainability legislation. You will be part of the Sustainability team, coordinating and managing daily activities related to some key EU regulations and policies on sustainability, such as the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, the Circular Economy Act, the Ecodesign for Sustainable Product Regulation, the Ecolabel.

With the support of industry experts, you will also provide technical input and advice to A.I.S.E.'s strategic sustainability initiatives, related to sustainability criteria, carbon and environmental footprint, circular feedstock and, ingredients safety assessment. The sector has a long history of proactive sustainability initiatives, such as the Charter for Sustainable Cleaning and the Cleanright campaign.

These activities will involve collecting, evaluating and summarising scientific and policy information and data, developing guidance and industry positions and seeking consensus. In addition to communicating and collaborating with our members and staff colleagues within the association, you will also interact frequently with external stakeholders, such as the European institutions, other industry associations and our network of National Associations.

Your main activities:

  • Assist A.I.S.E. members with the implementation of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation and organise A.I.S.E. contribution to the secondary legislation process.
  • Assist A.I.S.E. members with advocacy work on the Circular Economy Act and the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulations.
  • Monitor regulatory and legislative developments relevant to the detergents industry in your area (packaging, waste, ecodesign); contribute actively to studies, scientific projects and technical advocacy related to future legislation (development of position papers, input to consultations).
  • Coordinate A.I.S.E. working groups (organisation of meetings, issuance of meeting minutes, follow-up on actions determined at the meetings).
  • Represent A.I.S.E. in meetings with external stakeholders, policy makers, and at conferences.

Your profile

  • Sustainability and advocacy background, including a university degree in either a relevant scientific discipline (such as sustainability, chemistry, life/environmental sciences) or in a public affairs discipline (European politics/law, economics, international relations)
  • Experience of at least three years in a similar field
  • Experience of coordinating projects or teamwork
  • Familiarity with sustainability legislations and topics, preferably PPWR, Circular Economy, ESPR and Ecolabel
  • Understanding of the industry sector or similar (downstream users of chemicals, consumer goods, plastic packaging) and of the functioning/decision-making processes of the European Institutions
  • Good writing and communication skills with an excellent command of English, including ability to explain complex scientific issues in layman language
  • Good organisational skills and ability to handle several dossiers in parallel
  • Team player with an open and international mindset
  • Independent worker with initiative, flexible on work content and open to feedback
  • Working methods based on conceptual thinking and scientific rigour
  • Experience of work in trade associations or EU institutions is a plus
  • Based in or able to relocate to the Brussels area
