The Denver Department of Public Health & Environment (DDPHE) has been reaccredited by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB), reaffirming the department's commitment to nationally recognized, evidence-based standards for high-quality public health practice.

PHAB accreditation recognizes health departments that demonstrate their ability to meet rigorous national standards designed to strengthen public health practice and improve community health. Reaccreditation reflects DDPHE's ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and its work to protect and improve the health of Denver's people, pets and environment.

"Reaccreditation confirms that we are meeting nationally recognized standards while staying deeply connected to the needs of our community. It also reflects our ongoing commitment to programs grounded in health equity and data-driven decision making. Public health is a shared responsibility, and this achievement belongs to our staff, partners, and community members whose insight and dedication make our work possible."

The reaccreditation process includes a comprehensive review of a health department's policies, programs, services and organizational practices against national standards for public health. For DDPHE, the process reinforces the department's focus on health equity and its commitment to ensuring that programs, planning and community engagement efforts center the people and communities most impacted by social determinants of health.

Achieving reaccreditation is a department-wide effort. DDPHE employees contributed to the rigorous process through documentation, program review, assessment and ongoing work to demonstrate how the department meets national standards.

Denver is one of only five local public health agencies in Colorado to receive national accreditation through PHAB, underscoring DDPHE's commitment to excellence and continuous improvement in public health practice.

Reaccreditation also strengthens DDPHE's foundation for advancing its strategic priorities, including access to health care, safe and affordable housing, systemic racism, environmental health, gun violence prevention and workforce development.
