Commander of the United States Pacific Air Forces Calls on Deputy Minister of Defence

General Kevin B. Schneider, Commander of the United States Pacific Air Forces (PACAF), who is currently on a three day official visit to Sri Lanka from 21 to 24 June 2026, paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), at his office in Colombo on 22 June.

The Deputy Minister expressed his pleasure at the visit, noting that such high level engagements serve as an important platform for strengthening longstanding relations and fostering closer cooperation between Sri Lanka and the United States in areas of mutual interest.

During the meeting, the Deputy Minister commended the comprehensive humanitarian assistance extended by the United States, which encompassed humanitarian aid, financial support, airlift operations, and logistical coordination. These contributions played a pivotal role in bolstering Sri Lanka's relief and recovery efforts both during and after the recent 'Ditwah' natural disaster.

The Deputy Minister also conveyed his deep appreciation to the United States Government for its steadfast support in strengthening Sri Lanka's national security framework, with particular acknowledgement of the valuable assistance provided in enhancing the Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) capabilities.

He also lauded the recent donation of ten TH-57 Sea Ranger Helicopters by the United States, noting that the contribution would further strengthen Sri Lanka's operational capabilities and support the enhancement of defence and humanitarian assistance.

During the cordial discussions, both parties also exchanged views on strengthening bilateral defence cooperation and explored opportunities for future collaboration in the space domain, recognizing emerging opportunities for cooperation in technological and strategic areas of mutual interest.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Pacific Air Forces and the United States Embassy in Sri Lanka, including Defence Attaché Lieutenant Colonel Matthew House
