Arrests made after suspects block traffic and tag buildings with profanity

Eugene Police became aware an unknown group was planning to meet for an event after dark on Friday, May 2,, near the Campbell Community Center, in Campbell Park. Due to the later, darker hours of the event and unknown nature, Eugene Police activated its Mobile Response Team and Investigations to ensure traffic and property safety.

At 9:07 p.m. they located 30 protestors wearing all black clothing with face coverings marching southbound on High Street, in the middle of the street while blocking traffic and engaging in disorderly conduct. Two people were observed spray painting profanity on the wall of a local restaurant, Eateries Bar at 5th Avenue and High Street. The group made its way to the Federal Building and began shining lasers at the security cameras. Four to five suspects then began tagging the Federal Building with profanity and an anarchist symbol. The Nike building at 590 Pearl Street was tagged with profanity.

When the group began walking northbound on Pearl Street from 6th Avenue and observed officers, they attempted to flee. MRT was able to immediately detain a primary vandalism suspect, later identified as 35-year-old Eliza George Oswald of Eugene. Shortly after, three other suspects were taken into custody nearby.
