City of Fort Worth leaders joined WM on Oct. 28 to celebrate the grand opening of the company's new state-of-the-art Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Fort Worth. The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Mattie Parker and marked a significant step toward improving local recycling and sustainability efforts.
The new facility uses advanced technology to sort, process and prepare recyclable materials collected from Fort Worth and neighboring communities. Attendees at the ceremony toured the facility to see the recycling process firsthand - from materials arriving on trucks to being separated, cleaned and prepared for reuse.
"This facility represents innovation in action," said Domenica Farmer, area vice president of WM of Texas. "With this technology, we can recover more recyclable materials, reduce contamination and help Fort Worth achieve its sustainability goals."
"We're incredibly grateful [for this new facility]," Parker said. "It takes a lot of forethought to bring a facility like this to Fort Worth .… We are at the forefront of upscaling technology [among other major cities]."
She added: "We're really proud to work with each of you [WM] in making this possible for the City of Fort Worth."
Recycling plays a vital role in conserving natural resources, saving energy and reducing waste. Fort Worth residents can help make this system work effectively by recycling the right materials - clean paper, cardboard, cans and bottles - and keeping trash, food waste and plastic bags out of the blue cart.
