Promega Art Showcase Celebrates 30th Anniversary with PhotoMidwest Biennial Exhibition

Madison, WI USA. (August 11, 2026)

The Promega Art Showcase is celebrating its 30thanniversary by hosting the 14th PhotoMidwest Biennial Juried Exhibition as part of the 2026 PhotoMidwest Festival in Madison, WI. This is the second time that Promega has hosted the PhotoMidwest Biennial.

Promega has sponsored its Art Showcase program since 1996, reflecting a longstanding commitment to creativity and innovation in the arts, culture and sciences. Over 30 years, the Promega Art Showcase has grown into one of the region's most enduring corporate arts programs, hosting more than 100 shows to date.

PhotoMidwest Biennial Juried Exhibition
The PhotoMidwest Biennial showcases photographers living and working across thirteen midwestern states. The 2026 juror is Karen Irvine, Chief Curator and Deputy Director of the Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago. The exhibition is part of the broader PhotoMidwest Biennial Festival, which takes place at multiple Madison venues including PhotoMidwest Studio and the Pyle Center on the UW-Madison campus. Symposium and Opening Reception
The PhotoMidwest Biennial opens Thursday, September 17 at the Promega Biopharmaceutical Technology Center, 5445 E Cheryl Parkway in Fitchburg, WI.
A symposium with Karen Irvine and PhotoMidwest President Ralph Russo will be held 4:00 pm-5:00 pm. A reception will follow from 5:00 pm-6:30 pm, featuring music by singer, songwriter, guitarist and visual artist Andy Ewen alongside longtime musical partner and Honor Among Thieves co-founder Doug DeRosa and guitarist Ryan Repenshek. Daniel Swadener is the curator of this exhibit.

Two workshops will be offered on September 18 at the Promega Biopharmaceutical Technology Center. Karen Irvine will host a workshop titled "What A Curator Sees: How Photographs Get Attention" from 9:00-10:30 am. Participants will hear a behind-the-scenes perspective on curatorial decision making, with insights into working with museums and presenting their artwork. Ralph Russo will follow with a workshop titled "Seeing Differently: Photography Fundamentals for Aspiring Photographers" from 10:30 am-12:00 pm. Both workshops are open to the public.
