UNESCO and Pakistan Television Corporation Launched a Documentary Series entitled “Heritage in Young Hands” to Celebrate and Preserve Pakistan’s Rich Cultural Heritage

Islamabad, 06 November 2024- UNESCO and Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) launched a collaborative documentary series,Heritage in Young Hands, to highlight Pakistan's rich tangible and intangible heritage.

Heritage in Young Hands, produced through the joint efforts of UNESCO and PTV, takes viewers on an amazing journey of the Pakistan's cultural landscape that showcases rich cultural diversity and natural heritage. From ancient architectural sites and traditional crafts to vibrant festivals and local cuisines, the series captures the diversity and depth of Pakistan's heritage. The important locations featured in the documentary series include architectural marvels like the Historic Monuments of Makli-Thatta, the Archaeological ruins of Mohenjo-Daro and Takht-i-Bahi, the intricate stone carvings of Taxila, the famous glazed tiles of Hala, and the artisanal woodwork and textiles of Swat. The series also highlights the colorful Hindu, Sikh, and Muslim festivals, enriched by Sufi music, dance, poetry, and the indigenous cuisines of each province, reflecting a profound tapestry of Pakistan's cultural diversity.

The documentary series emphasizes the critical role of the youth and local communities in safeguarding Pakistan's cultural and natural heritage, drawing connections between heritage preservation and sustainable development, peace, and social cohesion. Each episode showcases Pakistan's unique cultural and biodiversity and raises awareness about the challenges of preserving both cultural and natural resources in the face of climate change and poverty.

Mr. Antony Kar Hung Tam, Officer-in-Charge of UNESCO Office in Pakistan, stressed the importance of engaging the next generation in heritage preservation, noting, "In order to effectively safeguard and make the right decisions about heritage tomorrow, the youth of Pakistan need to be sensitized and aware today of the need for cultural heritage and its role in sustainable development." He added, "I am sure this partnership of UNESCO and PTV will contribute to safeguarding and promoting the rich culture and biodiversity of Pakistan by mobilizing youth. UNESCO will continue its efforts in raising awareness and engaging communities in the preservation of heritage."

Heritage in Young Handswill inspire youth across Pakistan to connect with their heritage. He highlighted the commitment of PTV to providing accessible and informative programming that fosters national pride and cultural understanding.

The first episode of the series
, Heritage in Young Handswill be broadcasted on PTV Home at 6 p.m. on Saturdays, starting on 16 November 2024. The series is expected to be a landmark effort in cultural education, inspiring new interest in Pakistan's heritage and motivating youth to safeguard the country's rich legacy.
