Knowsley Council were presented with the "Employer of the Year" award in the large employer category at last night's St Helens and Knowsley Community College's Apprenticeship Awards.

The awards are a celebration of excellence, collaboration, and achievement and the event brings together apprentices, employers, tutors, and guests to honour outstanding contributions across a wide range of sectors.

The Council offers a range of apprenticeship opportunities to new and existing staff in a variety of fields such as Highways, HR, Democratic Services and many more. Since 2008, the Council has welcomed over 250 apprentices into the workforce, as well as providing funding opportunities for hundreds of existing staff.

As well as the Council picking up the Employer of the Year Award, awards were also presented to exceptional apprentices in recognition of their dedication and determination, as well as to other valued employers, ranging from small local businesses to global organisations, whose support is vital to the success of apprenticeship programmes.

The nomination submission stated that "Knowsley Council has invested in its apprenticeship programmes and an initiative to help staff gain a nationally recognised professional qualification. This approach has been effective in securing staff engagement and commitment to the qualification and off the job training requirements. They have used apprenticeships to address skill gaps and future workforce needs whilst providing opportunities for new recruits and existing staff to upskill."

Cllr Graham Morgan, Leader of Knowsley Council, said "I'm delighted that the Council has been awarded the Employer of the Year Award.

"Ensuring we provide invaluable support, training and work experience to young people not only helps with their development and career progression, but also supports the Council to attract the very best employees. This is a great achievement - well done to everyone involved."

Apprenticeships are a great way to kick-start your career and achieve your personal and professional goals. Find out more about apprenticeship opportunities and working for Knowsley Council at www.knowsley.gov.uk/yes.
