November Safety & Awareness Message from GCSU DPS
As the fall semester heads into its final stretch, and the holiday season approaches, the Georgia College & State University Department of Public Safety reminds everyone that safety begins with awareness and community connection.
GCSU DPS encourages all students, faculty and staff to stay alert, look out for one another and take proactive steps to protect themselves and our campus community throughout November.
Situational Awareness
With shorter daylight hours, now is a great time to practice good situational awareness. Walk in well-lit areas, avoid distractions like cell phones when moving around campus, and travel in groups whenever possible.

If you ever feel unsafe, call 478-445-4400 or use the LiveSafe app to reach GCSU Public Safety for assistance or an escort.

Travel & Holiday Safety
As many prepare to travel home for Thanksgiving, remember to:

A few small steps can prevent major issues while you're away.

Fire & Electrical Safety
Before leaving for break, take time to unplug small appliances, turn off lights and check heaters or power strips. Avoid overloading outlets - especially as holiday decorations go up.
Wellness & Awareness
November can bring academic pressure and seasonal stress. Chief Hardin reminds everyone that personal wellness and safety go hand in hand. Take time for rest, connect with friends and use campus resources for support. Looking out for one another - emotionally and physically - is a shared responsibility.
❄️ Weather Preparedness
As temperatures begin to drop, stay alert for updates through the GCSU Alert System and local forecasts. If you drive to or from campus, give yourself extra time in wet, foggy or icy conditions.
