Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmedin Konaković met with the Australian Ambassador to BiH based in Vienna, Ian David Grainge Biggs

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, met with the Australian Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina based in Vienna, Ian David Grainge Biggs, on 28 May 2026.

Both sides assessed that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Australia enjoy good and friendly bilateral relations. They expressed a mutual commitment to enhancing cooperation, particularly in the economic sector.

Minister Konaković briefed Ambassador Biggs on the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlighting key challenges, including security issues, obstacles to the country's path to European integration, the reform process, and youth emigration. He emphasized that the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina lies within the European Union and underscored the significance of the European path for the nation's economic development and its export potential. Additionally, he pointed out the importance of foreign investments for the country's stability.

The discussion also covered the role and significance of the Office of the High Representative (OHR), with both parties agreeing that regional stability is crucial for the advancement of Western Balkan countries.

Ambassador Biggs expressed Australia's interest in the Western Balkans and reaffirmed Australia's support for the integration of the region's countries into the European Union. He extended an invitation to Minister Konaković to visit Australia, emphasizing the importance of the visit given the large Bosnian community residing and working there.
