SIIA Urges Congress to Build on the AI Action Plan with Durable Federal Legislation

SIIA submitted a letter to the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology in connection with its hearing on Advancing America's AI Action Plan. The letter outlines how Congress can build on the Administration's risk-based, pro-innovation framework by advancing durable federal legislation that strengthens U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence.

Drawing from SIIA's newly released Federal AI Legislative Roadmap, the letter recommends a comprehensive federal approach centered on four pillars: baseline safety and security guardrails for foundation models, use-based and sector-specific regulation, federal-led domestic and international harmonization, and investments in pro-innovation infrastructure. SIIA emphasizes that thoughtful federal action is essential to avoid fragmented state regulation, promote innovation, and ensure the long-term competitiveness of the U.S. AI ecosystem.
