Three teens are in custody after shots were fired Monday at 10:30 p.m. between two Dodge Chargers traveling on Murfreesboro Pike at Morris Gentry Boulevard. Two other vehicles traveling on Murfreesboro Pike, and unrelated to the gunfire were struck, but fortunately no one was injured in the melee.
Responding officers spoke with a female victim whose windshield and front bumper had been struck. A short time later, a second driver reported damage to his vehicle. Sixteen 9-millimeter shell casings and one .40 caliber casing were recovered in the roadway at Morris Gentry Boulevard.
The Department of Emergency Communications received multiple calls involving a white Dodge Charger and a black Charger, both occupied by armed individuals wearing ski masks, in the area before the gunfire. Detectives located both Chargers traveling in tandem on Nolensville Pike near Old Hickory Boulevard. A police helicopter began following the suspect cars. The two vehicles split up and the pilot followed the white Charger, driven by Aldo Sosa Arteaga, 19, who continued driving at a high rate of speed. Spike strips were successfully deployed on I-40 East. The vehicle stopped near the I-440 and I-40 split where a 15-year-old male passenger was taken into custody. Arteaga and a 16-year-old male passenger fled on foot but were apprehended by Canine officers after they attempted to hide in brush. A 9-millimeter pistol was recovered from where they were hiding. A second 9-millimeter pistol and face masks were recovered from the Charger.
Arteaga is charged with aggravated assault, evading arrest, reckless driving, and weapon possession during the commission of a felony. He is being held on $105,000 bond. The 15-year-old is charged in Juvenile Court with second offense juvenile handgun possession. The 16-year-old is charged with a juvenile curfew violation.
