For over 30 years, the City of Bellflower has remained committed to investing in programs and services to strengthen public safety, support residents and enhance quality of life. Here are three key initiatives that have made a lasting impact across our City:
Public Safety Infrastructure and Funding
Approved by Bellflower voters in 1993, the Utility Users Tax (UUT) provided critical funding that helped establish the Public Safety Department in 1994. The department initially operated out of the Teen Center at Simms Park before moving to its current location, where it is now celebrating 30 years at the substation (1996-2026 ). Today, this funding continues to support vital public safety programs and Sheriff's resources.
The Southwest Patrol Program
Launched in 2018 to enhance Sheriff's patrol services, the Southwest Patro program has helped maintain a visible and consistent presence in parks and City facilities, contributing to a safer community for all.
The New Hope Shelter
Established in 2020, the New Hope Shelter made Bellflower one of the few cities to operate a City-run shelter This initiative reflects a proactive and compassionate approach to addressing local homelessness by providing direct support and pathways to stability for those in need.
These initiatives reflect Bellflower's continued dedication to safety, service and community well-being. To learn more about public safety, visit the City's Public Safety page.
