Amata’s Statement on the Anniversary of the 2009 Tsunami

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Uifa'atali Amata released the following statement on the anniversary of the 2009 devastating tsunami:

"Our people will never forget the devastating tsunami of September 29, 2009, and the tragic loss of so many of our own. Our hearts go out to all the many families in their sorrow and memories on this day. Our people showed great strength and determination in the midst of sadness, persevering to rebuild and go on, but we mourn those no longer with us.

"The terrible sudden destruction of this tsunami is the largest disaster in the modern history of our islands. Federal support will always have an important role in our disaster prevention and readiness. Thank you to everyone in front-line capacities and readiness for future responses.

"May God preserve our people from waves and storms, and bless the memories of the families."
