Iowa to Receive Nearly $17.5 Million from FEMA to Support Critical Projects Across the State

BUTLER COUNTY, IOWA - U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) welcomed an announcement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that dozens of projects in communities across Iowa will receive nearly $17.5 million in combined funding in response to severe storms in 2020, 2024 and 2025. The funding will benefit Iowans in the following counties: Cherokee, Clay, Jasper, Lyon, Monona, Polk, Poweshiek, Pottawattamie, Sioux, Story and Woodbury.

"Following multiple severe storms, the Hawkeye State has shown great resilience as Iowans continue to rebuild," Grassley said. "I'm glad to see FEMA move these funds out the door and into Iowa communities where they can be put to good use. In Washington, I'll keep fighting to ensure our state gets the resources we need for continued recovery."

The FEMA awards are:

• Grinnell Regional Medical Center: $260,042.06 to fund repairs or replacements to building exteriors, building interiors and other related components as a result of severe storms.
• City of Minden: $227,978.25 to fund building repairs or replacements as a result of severe storms.
• City of Slater: $239,655.18 to fund repairs or the replacement of the wastewater treatment plant greenhouse as a result of severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding.
• Polk County Conservation Board: $2,216,734.68 to fund permanent repairs as a result of severe storms, tornadoes and flooding which severely damaged the river intake pump with sediment and debris.
• City of Newton: $622,204.80 to fund bridge repairs or replacement as a result of severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding.
• Sioux County Secondary Roads: $572,625.00 to fund the repair or replacement of bridge-related components as a result of severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding.
• City of Cherokee: $298,009.50 to fund the repair or replacement of road surfaces, base and embankments as a result of severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds, and tornadoes.
• Clay County Secondary Roads: $101,250 to fund the repair or replacement of bridge approaches, decks and guard rails as a result of severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds and tornadoes.
• Lyon County Secondary Roads: $267,264.21 to fund the repair or replacement of culverts, pipes and other related components as a result of severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds and tornadoes.
• Honey Creek Drainage District #6: $418,899.03 to fund embankment repair or replacement as a result of severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds and tornadoes.
• Lyon County Secondary Roads: $809,812.50 to fund the repair or replacement of bridge-related components as a result of severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds and tornadoes.
• Lyon County Secondary Roads - Riverside 13W Bridge 231150: $1,380,497.25 to fund permanent repairs due to severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds and tornadoes that resulted in catastrophic damages to the bridge. As a result of high velocity flood water, the bridge superstructure and deck floated away.
• Lyon County Secondary Roads: $961,115.25 to fund bridge related repair or replacement as a result of severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding and tornadoes.
• Lyon County Secondary Roads: $870,014.25 to fund bridge-related repair or replacement as a result severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding and tornadoes.
• Lyon County Secondary Roads: $860,395.50 to fund bridge and other repairs or replacements as a result of severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds and tornadoes.
• Honey Creek Drainage District #6: $411,996.93 to address the water control facility levee breach with scour repair or replacement as a result of severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds and tornadoes.
• Pigeon Creek Drainage District #2: $316,766.44 to fund levee breach repairs or replacements as a result of severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds and tornadoes.
• City of Sioux City - Wastewater Treatment Plant: $1,202,643.90 to fund permanent repairs as a result of severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds, and tornadoes. As a result of flooding and increased debris intake, the equipment of the wastewater treatment plant was severely damaged.
• City of Rock Valley: $2,601,823.97 to cover eligible emergency response costs associated with volunteer labor and donated equipment used during the June 2024 severe storms and flooding, including sandbagging, evacuations, rescue operations and debris cleanup.
• Lyon County Secondary Roads: $211,903.86 to fund bridge-related repairs or replacements as a result of severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds and tornadoes.
• City of Spencer: $1,030,125 to help remove properties substantially damaged by severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds and tornadoes that posed a threat to public health and safety.
• Rock Valley Community School District: $150,746.74 to fund protective measures to lessen the threat to public health, safety and property as a result of severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds and tornadoes.
• Honey Creek Drainage District #6: $190,002.69 to fund the repair or replacement of slope scour damage and other related components as a result of severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds and tornadoes.
• Lyon County Fair Association: $515,431.57 to fund the repair or replacement of building exteriors, building interiors, contents, road surfaces and guard rails damaged by severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds and tornadoes.
• Spencer Community School District: $613,809.42 to fund costs related to the management of Public Assistance grants as a result of severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds and tornadoes.
• Monona County Secondary Roads: $143,919.32 to fund the repair or replacement of road surfaces and other related components as a result of a severe winter storm.
