Statement from DEQ Director Leah Feldon in response to recent EPA news about J.H. Baxter in Eugene

DEQ Director Leah Feldon issued the following statement today in response to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's announcement that it has begun another round of cleanup at J.H. Baxter, a former wood treatment facility.

"We appreciate the EPA's effort to keep cleanup moving at the J.H. Baxter Superfund Site in Eugene. The second Time-Critical Removal Action (TCRA) announced today will go a long way in continuing to clean up the site and DEQ will continue to support their efforts in whatever way we can.

Sites like J.H. Baxter increase risk of harm to our environment and people's health, and they require extensive work and resources to properly clean up. This underscores how essential EPA's Superfund program is to addressing contaminated sites in Oregon and across the nation.

We are grateful to EPA Regional Administrator Pokon and the Region 10 team for their continued dedication to cleaning up the J.H. Baxter site."
