SULPHUR, OKLA. - Celebrate National Public Lands Day by helping clean up Rock Creek at Chickasaw National Recreation Area. Join park staff at the Lincoln Bridge parking lot near the junction of Highway 177 and Northwest Perimeter Road on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 9:00 am to sign up as a volunteer. The event will last until noon.
"We are still cleaning up from the April tornado," says superintendent Devon Bradley. "National Public Lands Day volunteer events are being held across the country to help our parks continue to be beautiful places for all to enjoy. We're hoping to get some of the litter and debris from the storm cleaned up in Rock Creek now that the water level is down, and items are easier to find and remove."
Participants will help clean out unwanted items from Rock Creek. Wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes, socks, and full-length pants. Long-sleeved shirts are recommended. Work gloves will be provided, but participants may bring their own. Litter tongs and trash bags will be provided. Remember to bring plenty of water and any other comfort items you might require. Participants will get wet, so be sure to bring waterproof containers to protect items such as key fobs and cell phones.
