BSTDB Headquarters Earns LEED Platinum Certification

Press Release | 11-Dec-2025

First building in Thessaloniki to achieve this distinction

The Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB) has become the first institution in Thessaloniki to receive the prestigious LEED Platinum Certification, the highest distinction awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council.

The certification underscores both a major milestone for the Bank and a broader step forward for Thessaloniki's transition toward internationally recognised sustainability standards. It confirms that the new headquarters-completed and operational for only three months- has met the full suite of advanced environmental criteria and practices envisioned in its design. These include top-tier performance in energy efficiency, water efficiency, recycling systems, sustainable mobility, indoor environmental quality, thermal comfort, light-pollution reduction as well as enhanced resilience features that ensure long-term operational reliability and adaptability to evolving environmental and regulatory conditions. The building also prioritises employee well-being, incorporating high-quality indoor air, natural daylight, acoustic comfort, and human-centered design elements that contribute to a healthier and more productive workplace.

Marking the achievement, BSTDB Secretary General Asterios Tsoukalas stated: "Our decision to invest in a sustainable and 'future-proof' building is a conscious strategic choice that fully reflects our mission: to support the development of the Black Sea region in a responsible, sustainable and socially supportive manner. Our new offices incorporate principles of sustainability, energy efficiency, circularity and low environmental footprint, demonstrating in practice that these values start from 'our home'. The recognition of these principles with the LEED Platinum Certification crowns our efforts and renews our commitment to be pioneers in sustainability, applying strict ESG standards in our daily operations and continuously reducing our environmental footprint."

LEED (Leader in Energy and Environmental Design) certification is an official recognition that a project complies with the requirements prescribed within the LEED rating systems as created and maintained by the U.S. Green Building Council. The LEED certification program is administered by Green Business Certification Inc.
