THIS WEEK: Cassidy to Host Event on Empowering Students, Strengthening Access to Charter Schools

WASHINGTON - On Thursday, May 15, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, will host "Chartering Excellence: A Policy Briefing on Charter School Innovation," an event on how to strengthen access to charter schools, so students can receive the best education that meets their individual needs. This event is supported by the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, which has long championed Cassidy's efforts to support charter schools.

During the event, Cassidy will discuss his bills to increase education options for families, including the Equitable Access to School Facilities Act and Educational Choice for Children Act. The event will also feature a panel of charter school leaders from across the country, who will speak to the importance of charter schools in empowering students to succeed.

The panelists will include:

  • Ruben Morris, Founder and CEO, Alabama Aerospace and Aviation High School
  • David Taylor, Superintendent and CEO, Dayton Early College Academy
  • Dr. Laura Cassidy, Founder, Louisiana Key Academy Public Charter School
  • Donnell Bailey, Regional Development Director, TeachPlus
  • Lorenzo Romero, President, BASIS Educational Ventures
