One more tomb of the Ming Tombs recently opened its doors to visitors on December 22, meaning that over half of the main tombs at the Ming Tombs are now accessible to visitors.
The Jingling Tomb is the joint burial site of the Emperor Xuanzong (Zhu Zhanji, also known as the "Emperor Xuande") of the Ming Dynasty and the Empress Sun (his spouse). Covering an area of approximately 25,000 square meters, it houses a number of historical relics, while its architectural composition is still relatively intact.
Currently, visitors need to make reservations online to visit the tomb. The reservations can be made via the official Douyin account of the Ming Tombs Scenic Area (明十三陵景区) and the WeChat mini-program of Changping Cultural Tourism Group (昌平文旅集团). All visitors must be accompanied by tour guides assigned by the scenic area.
To date, the accessible sites of the Ming Tombs include the Changling, Dingling, Zhaoling, Kangling, Yongling, Siling and Jingling tombs, as well as the Sacred Way of Changling. Among these, the Changling, Dingling, and Zhaoling tombs and the Sacred Way Scenic Area are open in a regular manner, while others require booking first.
It is projected that by 2030, all the major imperial tombs of the Ming Tombs will be accessible to the public.
