Answer by Belarus' MFA Spokesperson R.Varankou to BelTA News Agency's question regarding recent statements from Lithuania

01 April 2026

BelTA: Vilnius has recently voiced the possibility of reestablishing contact with Belarus. How does the Foreign Ministry view these developments?

R.Varankou: We have followed the reports suggesting that Lithuania has identified a point of contact for potential engagement. However, to date, we have received no official or specific details regarding who will represent Vilnius, the scope of their mandate, or the intended agenda for such a dialogue.

It seems this move is intended mostly for domestic consumption - a way to signal to the Lithuanian public that some action is being taken regarding Belarus.

At this stage, we see no practical evidence that the Lithuanian side is prepared for a meaningful discussion.

That said, our stance remains consistent: we have always been, and remain, open to dialogue. But we are looking for substantive steps and real engagement, not just performative gestures for the media.
