Fatal Structure Fire on Power Line Road

BARTOW, Fla. (Nov. 1, 2026) - One person died in a residential fire on Power Line Road in Davenport Saturday night.

Polk County Fire Rescue crews responded to the single-story home after receiving a call about 10 p.m. The first crew arrived about seven minutes later to a well involved residential fire with smoke and flames. It was believed there one person inside the home.

Firefighters found one person deceased upon interior search. "On behalf of Polk County Fire Rescue, we extend our condolences to the family and friends of the person who died," Chief Shawn Smith said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshal's Office, and the Polk County Sheriff's Office is conducting a death investigation. The American Red Cross was notified to assist the family with lodging and other needs.
