A Relaxing Autumn Walk Through Beijing's Lanman Hutong

Autumn breezes are now sweeping through Beijing's streets and lanes. Why not take a leisurely stroll through Lanman Hutong for this soothing season?

Formerly known as "Lanmian Hutong", this lane is an important part of the Xuannan area's historic guild hall culture. Once the site of numerous guild halls, it is still home to landmarks such as the Hunan Guild Hall (湖南会馆) and the Dongguan Guild Hall (东莞会馆). Here, gray-tiled roofs and brick walls carry traces of centuries of local history and cultural heritage.

Stroll through the hutong at an easy pace and you'll catch glimpses of the authentic everyday life in Beijing's old neighborhoods. Along the way, you'll also encounter distinctive creative shops and art installations. Take your time, soak up the surroundings and enjoy the unhurried pace of an autumn day in a hutong in Beijing.

Recommended Walking Route

Caishi Kou Subway Station (Exit D) → North Entrance of Lanman Hutong → Hutong's Signage Wall → Former Site of Hunan Guild Hall → Former Site of Dongguan Guild Hall → South Entrance of Lanman Hutong

You can also stop by Fayuan Temple (法源寺) along the way. The full route takes about 1.5 hours on foot, making it perfect for a relaxing stroll.

Travel Tips

1.The best time to visit is between 15:00 and 17:00, when the soft autumn light creates beautiful light-and-shadow effects and a warm atmosphere for photos.

2.The hutong has its residents, so please keep your voice down while visiting and taking photos and respect their privacy.

3.The area is best explored on foot, so travel light and wear comfortable shoes. After visiting the hutong, you can also stop by Niujie Street (牛街) to try some local delicacies.
