The University of Iowa has been recognized by the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) as an Innovation and Economic Prosperity University, a national designation that recognizes the university's strong support of economic and community development.

The UI is now one of more than 90 higher education institutions nationally that have been recognized as an Innovation and Economic Prosperity University.

The designation celebrates how the UI works closely with public and private partners to drive innovation, support entrepreneurship, develop a skilled workforce, and strengthen communities across the state of Iowa and the region. The designation also reflects the dedication of UI faculty and staff to making a difference in the lives of Iowans.

To earn the recognition, the UI completed a comprehensive self-assessment of its economic engagement initiatives and gathered feedback from stakeholders. APLU's Commission on Economic and Community Engagement oversaw the process.

APLU's Innovation and Economic Prosperity program helps higher education institutions better understand, measure, and enhance contributions to economic and community engagement. Designated universities share their best practices and collaborate to maximize their economic and societal impact.
