Man Charged for Killing His Girlfriend

January 22, 2025, Peoria, IL - Today, Derreck S. Hall, 45, was charged with First Degree Murder for shooting and killing his girlfriend Latrista L. Warfield, 37, at The Grove Apartment Complex in North Peoria. He was also charged yesterday with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Repeat Felony Offender. The State's Petition to Detain was granted, and Hall will remain in custody until trial.

Around 11 am Sunday, police responded to the 1400 block of W. Candlelight Court on a report of a woman down. Upon arrival, Warfield was found lying in a pool of blood in the hallway in front of one of the apartments. She was pronounced dead on the scene. She was shot six times. Sunday night, Hall turned himself in to the police and told them he had the gun that was used "in the thing." Detectives recovered the gun, and test shots from that gun matched shell casings collected from the scene.
