I stood with my colleagues and voted NO to Senate Bill 25, an energy bill loaded with guaranteed rate increases. The Illinois Democrats' Green New Giveaway is not the answer for our state's energy crisis.
If we want stable and cheaper energy, we must utilize all of our resources, including coal and nuclear. House Republicans support a comprehensive, all-of-the-above energy approach that can meet demand, is reliable, and doesn't cost consumers an arm and a leg.
SB25 will only add additional burdens on Illinois families who are already contending with massive energy bills.
"This bill is bad for families and small-businesses across the state of Illinois who are already struggling," Schmidt said. "We are going down the wrong path and SB25 does nothing to help with immediate relief. This bill does not help generate the power supply we need, it's only going to make energy rates increase even more, and that's the last thing my constituents need, especially in East St. Louis."
