Fort Union to Host “Of Smoke & Powder” Living History Event

WATROUS, N.M. -
Fort Union National Monument will host "Of Smoke & Powder," a special living history event Saturday, Oct. 24, and Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026.

The event will feature two one-hour programs each day highlighting frontier Army firearms and demonstrations of their operation. A living history camp will also be open throughout the day, offering visitors a glimpse into Army life on the 19th-century frontier.

Programs will begin at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. each day.

Each program will include demonstrations of weapon firing. Visitors are invited to experience living history at Fort Union National Monument along the historic Santa Fe Trail.
