President Gitanas Nausėda met with Kaja Kallas, Vice-President of the European Commission and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. The meeting focused on Lithuania's priorities for its Presidency of the Council of the EU, the EU's new multiannual financial framework, and support for Ukraine.

The President emphasized that the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU will focus on European security and defense, EU enlargement, competitiveness, internal security, and societal resilience. Lithuania will seek to serve as an honest and impartial broker, bringing Member States together to reach common decisions.

Discussing the EU's multiannual financial framework for 2028-2034, Gitanas Nausėda stressed the need to ensure adequate funding for security and defense, military mobility, the resilience of critical infrastructure, competitiveness, and support for Ukraine. According to the President, special attention needs to be paid to the EU's eastern border regions and the challenges posed by hybrid threats.

Speaking about Ukraine, the President stressed that European support has to be strengthened, particularly in the areas of air defense, counter-drone capabilities, and energy resilience. The allocation of the remaining funds from the European Peace Facility to Ukraine and increased Member State contributions to Ukraine's defense were also discussed.

On sanctions policy, the President emphasized the need to maintain maximum pressure on Russia and Belarus, ensure the continuation of existing sanctions, adopt the 22nd sanctions package, and accelerate the introduction of new measures targeting Russia's energy, financial, and military-industrial sectors.

EU enlargement was also discussed during the meeting. Gitanas Nausėda pointed out the need to advance the accession processes of Ukraine and Moldova more quickly and to continue making progress in the Western Balkans.
