Public Survey Open through Dec. 31, 2025
DENVER - Nov. 4, 2025 - Denver International Airport (DEN) is seeking feedback from those who travel along the Peña Boulevard corridor on ways the airport can improve the travel experience. Airline passengers, those who work at or around DEN and community members are invited to participate by filling out this survey.
The survey is a critical part of the public scoping phase of the Peña Design & National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) project and will allow the diverse perspectives and experiences of Peña Boulevard users to inform the foundation of the project. NEPA is a federally required obligation that DEN must complete before any improvements can be made to Peña Boulevard between I-70 and E-470.
Built more than 30 years ago, much of Peña Boulevard no longer meets current design standards. Traffic volumes now exceed 139,000 vehicles per day, an 80% increase since opening, leading to congestion, higher crash rates, unreliable travel times and escalating maintenance needs.
"Part of DEN's Vision 100- our plan to serve 100 million annual passengers- focuses on maintaining our infrastructure," DEN CEO Phil Washington said. "Peña Boulevard is the main way people get to and from DEN, and it is long overdue for upgrades. Ensuring a safe and efficient travel experience is necessary for us to serve those 100 million annual passengers we expect in the next several years. Your feedback on this survey will help us ensure a safe corridor that allows for a diversity of travel options and aims to serve everyone."
Through the survey, DEN seeks to gather a variety of feedback that will help identify a preferred alternative. The survey includes:
The Peña Design & NEPA project will take about two years, and construction could begin as soon as 2028, dependent on NEPA approval and the selection of a locally preferred alternative. The improvement project will build upon recently completed studies including the Peña Master Plan and Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Plan.
The last day to complete the survey is Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025.
Denver International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world. DEN is the primary economic engine for the state of Colorado, generating more than $47.2 billion for the region annually.
