Meeting with the UN Under-Secretary-General and Head of UNDESA

On 23 September 2026, in New York, on the margins of the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, and Li Junhua, UN Under-Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA).

During the meeting, the sides discussed issues of Tajikistan's cooperation with UNDESA, the global water agenda, climate change, glacier preservation and sustainable development.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed appreciation to UNDESA for its support for Tajikistan's initiatives in the field of water and glaciers, as well as for its contribution to the organization of the Fourth Dushanbe Water Conference in 2026, emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation in preparations for the 2028 UN Water Conference in Dushanbe and the development of the Dushanbe Water Framework. The sides also discussed preparations for the 2028 Conference, including the organization of a high-level preparatory meeting at UN Headquarters in 2027 and the engagement of UN entities in the preparatory process.
