City Launches New Solar Permit Program SolarAPP+

The City of Gaithersburg has launched a new program that allows licensed contractors to apply for permits for standard residential rooftop solar and energy storage systems through SolarAPP+, an automated online permitting platform.

SolarAPP+ automates solar plan reviews and performs comprehensive code-compliance checks to ensure adherence to the 2021 International Residential Code and the 2020 National Electrical Code.

Residential solar projects are eligible to participate if the project qualifies under SolarAPP+ eligibility requirements and is not located within a Historic District and subject to a Historic Area Work Permit.

Using SolarAPP+ is optional, and standard applications may still be submitted through the City's Online Permitting Portal. To apply through SolarAPP+, applicants must create a SolarAPP+ account. Instructions and details on how to create an account can be found here.
