In 2024, Hope Heroes delivered thousands of Medi Teddy® IV bag covers to pediatric hospital rooms across Northeast Ohio. Building on that success, the student-led campaign is once again on a heartfelt mission - this time, by unleashing the healing power of therapy dogs.
Spearheaded by students from 10 local high schools, the Hope Heroes fundraising campaign is part of the Junior Achievement Marketing Program at Beachwood High School. These young entrepreneurs are gaining real-world experience as they manage every aspect of the campaign, from budgeting and event planning to securing sponsorships and selling balloon-themed merchandise. Their mission? To support facility and therapy dog programs across Northeast Ohio hospital systems and bring hope, healing and happiness to children in need.
"Hope Heroes is making a difference in the lives of critically ill children through facility and therapy dogs, whose unconditional love and presence bring light into the darkest times," said Beachwood High School senior Kelsey Cohen.
Research shows that therapy dogs can significantly reduce stress and anxiety in clinical settings, lower heart rate and blood pressure, and ease trauma symptoms, contributing to a faster recovery and emotional well-being.
To date, Hope Heroes has raised over $200,000. MetroHealth's Loving Paws Program is grateful to be among the beneficiaries, receiving a generous gift of $15,000 to enhance its vital work.
"The commitment these future leaders have shown to brightening the lives of critically ill children and their families is truly inspiring," said Ann Koslow, MetroHealth's Manager of Volunteer Services. "Their mission to bring comfort and healing through the unconditional love of therapy dogs aligns beautifully with the goals of our Loving Paws Program."
With every wag of their tails, the therapy dogs of the Loving Paws Program bring smiles, comfort and joy to those who need it most. Thanks to the support of Hope Heroes, this impactful program continues to grow, touching more lives with each visit.
