Ciattarelli Cheers On Disastrous Budget Bill As New Jerseyans See Health Care Premiums Surge 175%

Ciattarelli Cheers On Disastrous Budget Bill As New Jerseyans See Health Care Premiums Surge 175%

Ciattarelli said that stripping health care away isn't "a New Jersey issue."

In another stark reminder that New Jersey families cannot afford Jack Ciattarelli's harmful and deeply unpopular agenda, new reporting indicates that New Jerseyans who are enrolled in health care through the ACA marketplace will see an average increase of nearly 175 percent in their health insurance premiums next year. Thanks to Ciattarelli's support for Donald Trump's deeply unpopular budget that guts Medicaid, hardworking families will be forced to pay the price for the bill Ciattarelli has championed.

Ciattarelli has given his full-throated support to Trump's signature legislation - even as New Jersey health care providers and nonpartisan experts warned that it would rip away coverage from 350,000 New Jerseyans - saying as governor he would have been "calling every one of [New Jersey's] fourteen members of the Congress… to make sure they're voting yes." He even bragged that gutting food benefits from New Jersey kids, while forcing hospitals to close and driving energy costs higher, is what the New Jersey governor's race "is really all about."

And stunningly, when asked about the devastating consequences of this legislation, Ciattarelli shrugged, saying that stripping health care away isn't "a New Jersey issue."

"While Jack Ciattarelli cheers on Republicans in DC for ripping away health care and sending insurance premiums skyrocketing, New Jersey families are facing an incomprehensible price hike for health care coverage," said DGA spokesperson Olivia Davis. "Ciattarelli's agenda is clear: higher taxes, jobs on the chopping block, and health care that's more expensive and harder to access - as long as that's what Donald Trump wants. It's one more reason why, as voters cast their ballots, they will stand firmly between Ciattarelli and Trenton and send him packing for a third time."
