The City of Yuma has named Janet Pierson as its new City Clerk. Janet joined the organization in 2007 and most recently served as Deputy City Clerk. She succeeds Lynda Bushong who retired after 18 years of service with the City.
Janet brings nearly two decades of experience in municipal government, along with a background in private-sector legal support. After joining the City Attorney's Office as a Legal Assistant in 2007, she moved to the City Clerk's Office in 2010 as Deputy City Clerk, where she spent the past 16 years supporting City Council meetings, public records, and other key public processes.
"I am proud, honored and humbled to serve as Yuma's City Clerk," Pierson said. "I am grateful for the support of my family and for the confidence the City Administrator and City Council have placed in me. As a Yuma native, it is especially meaningful to continue serving this organization and the community in this role."
As City Clerk, Janet will oversee operations that help ensure transparency, accountability, and efficiency in areas such as boards and commissions, Council meetings, records management, elections, liquor licensing, political action committees, and the City Charter and Code.
"Janet's years of experience and institutional knowledge made her the clear choice to serve as Yuma's next City Clerk," said Acting City Administrator Jay Simonton. "Since stepping into the role in early April, she has already demonstrated strong leadership, professionalism and a commitment to excellence. I have complete confidence in her ability to lead the City Clerk's Office and serve our community for years to come."
Please join us in congratulating Janet on her promotion and continued service to both the organization and community.
