Ernst Earns Award for Championing Iowa Pork Producers

Ernst recognized for her work protecting producers, strengthening animal-disease preparedness, and expanding markets for U.S. pork.

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, received the National Pork Producers Council's (NPPC) inaugural "Bringing Home the Bacon" Congressional Award in recognition of her work supporting America's 60,000-plus pork producers.

"Growing up feeding hogs and walking beans on my family farm in southwest Iowa, I learned early that agriculture is not just an industry in Iowa-it is our way of life," said Ernst. "It has been the honor of a lifetime to fight for our pork producers, and I'm grateful to be earning this award for my work. I will keep fighting to bring home the bacon by standing up to California's Proposition 12, protecting our herds from foreign animal disease, and opening new markets for Iowa farmers and producers."

"Pork producers-both in and outside Iowa-benefit from Senator Ernst's pure grit and willingness to never back down from the good fight," said NPPC President Rob Brenneman, a pork producer from Washington County, Iowa. "Senator Ernst always takes the time to hear our concerns and, most importantly, find solutions to help our industry thrive. We sincerely thank her for her years of service in the United States Senate."
