"For us, the sea has always been - and continues to be - a symbol of freedom, development and dialogue among civilizations," the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili delivered a speech at an event commemorating the International Day of the Seafarer.

According to the President, Georgians have long been an integral part of global maritime navigation. He noted that the history of seaworthy shipbuilding and the development of trade corridors across the territory of present-day Georgia can be traced back to the era of the Colchian civilization.

"Today, Georgia is reclaiming its historical role and establishing itself as a major regional trade and transit corridor, a logistics hub and a platform for peace. In this process, your role becomes all the more invaluable: you are our country's living ambassadors on the world's seas - individuals who carry Georgia's name, flag and dignity onto the international stage," Mikheil Kavelashvili told the assembled seafarers.

The President expressed his gratitude to both the seafarers attending the event and those serving on long-distance voyages, emphasizing that their professionalism constitutes a cornerstone of the country's economic development and national strength.

The event also featured a ceremonial oath-taking by young seafarers.

Alongside the President, the ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of Georgia, the Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Achara, and representatives of the central and local authorities.
